The concept of Yin and Yang I believe is misunderstood by so many unnecessarily. Without any basic research, people are quick to make judgements on what they believe it to be or they have some mindless person say something stupid about it as they cannot think for themselves.
“The law of Yin and Yang is the natural order of the universe, the foundation of all things, mother of all changes, the root of life and death". The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine
The Yin Yang symbol is one recognised by most people throughout the world. It is commonly spoken of as a symbol of balance and this is true. Both simple and complex, once understood, the learning's can transcend your ability to heal yourself through taking control of your life.
There are endless quotes about seeking balance in ones life, or everything in moderation. Why is that? Why does it not serve us to be extreme in any one way?
Yin and Yang is the foundation for understanding health and diagnosing illness in TICM, and has been the guiding principle for thousands of years. It was first referenced in 700 BC in the I Ching (Book of Changes) and stated that all phenomena is composed of two opposite, but mutually interconnected forces, known as Yin and Yang.
These forces cannot exist without each other, they are inseparable and also constantly becoming one another. Together they make a whole, the way that the day flows into night and vice versa, a seamless flow of energy, movement and balance. As the symbol illustrates, each side has at its core an element of the other represented by the small dot. Neither pole is superior to the other. An increase in one brings a corresponding decrease in the other, a correct balance between the two poles must be reached in order to achieve harmony, aka health. When there's a state of disequilibrium caused by either excess or deficiency, a person will experience ill health.
Serious diseases and disorders result from a chronic condition of imbalance of the Yin and Yang forces. The four states of imbalance are: Excess of Yin, Excess of Yang, Deficiency of Yin, Deficiency of Yang.
