How many of us take notice of our LI or even take the time to nurture it? In a previous post I stated that LI partners with the Lungs and that LI symbolise beginnings and endings, both literally and emotionally. The Lungs can only be as strong as the LI. Here are tips on how to keep the LI and therefore the Lungs healthy.
This is especially beneficial in Autumn, the season that correlates to the Lung and LI. If you have imbalances or deficiencies in this organ system, symptoms will arise during this time. LI Qi (energy) always has to be moving down and out to protect us from accumulating too much waste both energetically and physically.
Keep hydrated with plenty of clean, filtered water. Warmer temperature water is the best way to stay hydrated and invigorate the intestines, bowels, and digestion. This helps bowels stay regular as constipation is usually a result from dryness in the intestines.
Use energetic and relaxing movements such as Qigong, Taichi, yoga, pilates, salaah and deep breathing techniques. Make moderate exercise a daily priority.
Detox naturally through gua sha, massage, lymphatic drainage, acupressure and infrared sauna. Make sure to be expelling waste through bowel movements, sweating and natural detoxification techniques.
Be ready to let go of thoughts, ideas, and beliefs that no longer serve you. Crying is a great release. Do not hang on to people or situations that are stagnant. Release guilt and regrets, focus on the present moment.
Eat plenty of lightly cooked fresh vegetables. Natural fibre is crucial for movement through the digestive tract. Eat varieties of leafy greens like kale, spinach, dandelion greens, radish greens, broccolini, collard greens, chard.
Avoid sugar and inflammatory foods that include saturated fats, trans fats, gluten, refined foods, alcohol, and aspartame.
Especially healing foods are: anise, adzuki beans, basil, cardamom, celery, cinnamon, chives, clove, coriander, dill, fennel, flax seed, honey, leek, nutmeg, onion, oregano, turnips, rosemary, seaweed, scallion.
To strengthen the Large Intestine, you can use herbal formulas from the Spleen formula range.
