Heart-Uterus connection

Writer: Jahanara MonafJahanara Monaf

Although I am constantly discussing the important connection between the Liver-Uterus, the Uterus also has a very important connection to other organs.

In TICM, it is the Heart that determines behaviour, not the brain. This is further determined to be accurate through the known connection between emotions and hormonal balance. Let's take a closer look at how the Heart and the Uterus are connected in TICM. Bao Mai (Chinese) is a channel that is known as the Uterus Vessel. This channel crosses the Stomach and is how the Heart and uterus communicate with one another. The Heart is particularly susceptible to emotional stress such as anxiety, which in turn can affect the health and receptivity of the uterus. Every month the Blood comes down from the Heart through the Bao Mai vessel and settles into the Uterus, allowing the Uterus to nourish an embryo. From there, the Uterus channel connects to the Kidneys. This special connection is the relationship for birth, hormones, emotional balance, pelvic health and menstruation, which is why TICM puts such an emphasis on the Heart, Uterus and Kidney relationship for women's health. The Bao Mai must be unblocked and free flowing for period and pregnancy to occur. If this vessel is blocked, painful periods, PMS and infertility can easily manifest. Similar to the cause of stagnation: stress, excess emotions, over-exertion and intake of food and drink heavy in cold can create blockages that lead to irregular periods, PMS, infertility, so on. This Uterus Vessel is imperative in the wellbeing of women. A healthy Bao Mai channel allows for pain free periods and successful pregnancies. In TICM, in addition to the Western roles of the Heart, we view the Heart as the King organ of our body, in full connection with our emotions and particularly affected by anxiety. The more emotionally sound we are, the freer the flow of Qi (energy) and Blood is from the Heart to the Uterus via the Bao Mai. What you can do: Acupuncture, acupressure. Qigong movements, stretching. Breathwork, meditation, journaling. Choosing gentle exercise instead of vigorous types. Warming teas and soups with each meal, think cinnamon, ginger, bone broth. Trying for a baby can be stressful, but it is the time to surrender. Stress impacts you most during this time. Partake in activities that bring you pure joy. Joy is the emotion associated with the Heart. Listen to your inner-child. Sing, dance and play. Practice flexibility. Herbal treatments to strengthen the Bao Mai channel. Read the descriptions and see which is best for you. You can use more than one formula, depending on the individual, 1-3 is best. Fertility formula: removes Blood stasis and regulates healthy Blood flow, regenerates Blood and removes cold in channels as well as warming the Uterus. It strengthens Kidney Jing, Kidney Yin, removes Liver stagnation, tonify Spleen and Liver. Spleen formula: reduces anxiety, insomnia and supports the Spleen. The Spleen is the organ responsible for transmitting and transforming the food we eat into energy and nutrients. Liver formula: helps smooth the flow of Blood, Qi and our emotions, helps those who are stressed. Kidney support: to support signs of early aging and balance the Kidney system.
