Acupuncture during pregnancy
Common question I get asked all the time, is acupuncture safe during pregnancy? Yes it is absolutely safe and I highly recommend it throughout the entire pregnancy. Towards the end, if baby is breech we can start treatment to turn baby around into the correct position, open up the cervix for easy labour, talk you through pain management as to what your birthing partner can do to assist you so you can avoid epidural making your birthing as pain free and smooth as possible.
Birthing should be an enjoyable experience as it is a miracle in itself. Pregnancy is quite possibly the most important transitional period in a woman's life. This period offers the most rewarding opportunity of awareness to physical and emotional health, for both the soon to be mother and child. By taking extra care before, during and after pregnancy, it is sure to benefit the entire family.
TICM has been used with great efficacy for those who are about to embark on their pregnancy journey. Ideally, if you wanted to use TICM to enhance fertility and health preparations, you'd want to begin at least three months prior to conceiving. These months would be used to treat imbalances like improper diet and nutrition, irregular menstrual cycle, weight management, stress management, and any other irregular symptoms that one can be experiencing. This treatment is done to ensure the smoothest pregnancy possible.
Acupuncture has been used for pregnancy in order to help the following: conceiving both naturally and with assisted reproductive technology, such as IVF, with fatigue, general pain and discomfort from pregnancy, pelvic discomfort, headaches, heartburn, constipation, hemorrhoids, stress, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, sciatica pain, and even to correct breech position and help induce labor if needed.
During pregnancy, it is recommended that certain points are avoided because they could possibly stimulate labour, those points are LI4, LIV3, GB20, SP6, BL60, and more lower abdominal points and sacral points. Make sure you speak to your doctor before treatment.
Postnatal support is also done with acupuncture helping the following: mastitis, weight loss, joint pain, depression, milk flow, haemorrhoids, constipation and so much more.
