Citric acid is a food preservative and food flavouring that is commonly found in carbonated fizzy drinks, bottled juices and teas, baby food, cleaning agents, flavoured crisps, sweets, energy drinks, canned tomatoes and nutritional supplements to name just a few things.
Citric acid is naturally occurring in citrus fruits like lemons. However, the additive that is used as a preservative in foods is derived from mold created by corn (GMO) and not from actual citrus fruits. With continued consumption, this preservative is irritative to the linings of the Stomach and digestive tract, causing severe inflammation and tooth decay.
Although citric acid has been made safe by the powers that be, their guidelines and regulations do not have our best interests as well as health in mind. Hence why it is imperative to follow the Qur'an and Sunnah eating on halal and tayyab (permissible, pure and wholesome).
